Standing Up For Seniors

return to priorities

Betsy Rader worked at Medicare and Medicaid, helping to design cost-effective, high quality care for patients, and she will stand up for older Americans in Congress

Betsy believes we must…

    • Keep our promises to seniors by protecting Social Security and expanding benefits to keep up with the costs of living
    • Vote against any effort to cut or privatize Medicare or turn it into a voucher program
    • Work to lower the cost of prescription drugs
    • Fight for seniors facing age discrimination in the workplace

Betsy has been a long-time advocate for seniors and affordable healthcare. In Congress, she will work hard so that everyone can enjoy a secure retirement by voting against any bill that cuts Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. Our seniors don’t deserve to lose the support that they’ve been counting on, just because Republicans in Congress want to give massive tax cuts to their wealthiest donors–and we owe it to future generations to keep these programs strong.

One of the biggest problems facing Americans is the rising cost of pharmaceutical prices–critical medications are becoming more and more unaffordable and we need to work urgently to lower costs. To begin addressing this problem, the law should be changed to allow the government to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. Congress should also create a consumer watchdog agency that can levy fines against pharmaceutical companies that inappropriately raise prices. We should also pass the CREATES Act, which would expedite entry of lower-cost generic drugs into the marketplace. We must also hold big pharmaceutical companies accountable for unfairly price gouging.

As an employment lawyer, Betsy has defended the rights of seniors who have been unjustly discriminated against or even fired due to age, and in Congress she will work to do the same to make sure that Americans of all ages have a chance to succeed in the workplace. Be sure to read Betsy’s article on age discrimination in the workplace, here.

Betsy has worked as Senior Counsel of the Cleveland Clinic, completed graduate certification in Health Care Compliance, and worked at the Innovation Center for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She understands our complicated healthcare system and will put her extensive experience to use for Northeast Ohio to fight for every American to have affordable, quality health care.
