Former White House National Economic Advisor Gene Sperling Endorses Betsy Rader
Sperling served in Obama and Clinton Administrations

Novelty, OH – On Tuesday, former White House national economic advisor Gene Sperling endorsed Betsy Rader for Congress in Ohio’s 14th District. Sperling, who served as Director of the National Economic Council in the Obama and Clinton administrations, led successful efforts to create jobs and lower taxes on middle class families.

“I’m really excited about Betsy’s campaign because she is focused on important job-creating measures that will help her district, like investing in infrastructure and helping workers get the skills they need to get new and higher paying jobs. This serves as a refreshing contrast to what we’re getting from Republicans in Congress. Instead of working to find real solutions, they are re-packaging failed trickle-down economics by giving big tax cuts to the top earners and then seeking to slash Medicaid, health care coverage, higher education and other critical benefits to middle class and hard-pressed working families,” said Gene Sperling.

As a key figure in the Obama administration, Sperling played a lead role advising the president on issues such as job creation, manufacturing policy, and housing, and played a key role in crafting the American Job Act, expanding tax cuts for working families, and passing the Small Business Jobs Act. Sperling also took the lead on programs designed to prepare America’s workforce for jobs of the future.

“Betsy’s focus on education and skills touch on two key areas that I think are particularly important: early childhood education and ensuring that we are offering people the skills and support they need throughout their lives: not only when they are starting careers but when they need to change jobs and careers as well. I hear from business leaders regularly that these are two ends of the education continuum that we’re missing the mark on, and Betsy has highlighted some key changes we can make to see real progress in these areas,” added Sperling. “We need more people with Betsy’s background in Congress. After working her way through school to empower both herself and her family, she’s not only worked in jobs growing local businesses, but also worked hard to give back to her community. She’s a proven leader and job creator who has had a career of fighting for working families and getting things done. These are exactly the credentials we need more of in Congress.”

“It’s an honor to have the support of Gene Sperling — he’s been a leader in building an economy that works for middle class families. During my career, I’ve helped expand businesses and create jobs, and I know how motivated hard-working Ohioans are to support their families.   It will be my goal in Congress to create more opportunities for our communities. Our area has so much potential, but we need a real advocate in Congress — Congressman Joyce simply isn’t cutting it,” said Betsy Rader. “Instead of working hard to bring necessary infrastructure and good-paying jobs to places like Ashtabula county, he’s giving tax breaks to his corporate donors and hiding from his constituents when they ask to meet in a public forum. It’s time for a change.”

Sperling joins Senator Sherrod Brown, EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, National Farmers Union PAC, CWA, and the Sierra Club in supporting Betsy Rader’s bid against Congressman David Joyce.
