EMILY’s List endorses congressional candidate Betsy Rader | March 9, 2018

Congressional candidate Betsy Rader of Russell Township on Friday won an endorsement from EMILY’s List, a political action committee that raises money for female Democratic candidates who support abortion rights.

The group released a statement that applauded Rader for putting herself through college and law school, and dedicating herself to “giving back to her community” as a civil rights lawyer who fights “to achieve greater equality and combat discrimination in the workplace.”

“She’s made access to legal services and health care two of her passions – always working to improve the world around her,” said a statement from the group’s president, Stephanie Schriock, which criticized Rader’s opponent, GOP Rep. Dave Joyce of Bainbridge Township, for voting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood.

The group, which calls itself “the nation’s largest resource for women in politics,” says it has raised over $500 million to support Democratic women candidates who support abortion rights. The group’s endorsement will provide Rader with access to its donor network and the possibility of more financial help.
